In 2257 AD, the men of the planet New World have been afflicted with the Noise, a condition that causes everyone to see and hear each other's thoughts. 

The colonists were caught in a civil war with the native aliens which killed all of the women, but half of the men survived. Todd Hewitt (Tom Holland) lives in Prentisstown with his adoptive fathers, Ben (Demian Bichir) and Cillian Boyd (Kurt Sutter). Other residents include the preacher Aaron (David Oyelowo), the town's mayor David Prentiss (Mads Mikkelsen), and his son Davy (Nick Jonas). A spaceship that lost contact with the First Colony approaches New World and a scout ship is sent to investigate, but it crashes. One day, while Todd is working, he spots someone stealing and chases the thief only to come upon the ruins of the scout ship.[6]

Todd returns to the town and tries to keep quiet, but the other men hear and see his thoughts about the crashed ship; they head to investigate the ruins and sabotage some parts of it, but find no survivors. While Todd is alone, he meets Viola (Daisy Ridley), the only survivor of the crash. He is shocked to see a girl, as he has never seen one before. The men from Prentisstown capture Viola and she is brought to the mayor's home, where she's questioned. Prentiss explains to her what the Noise is and what has happened on their planet. While he goes out to speak to the men, Davy is charged to keep an eye on her, but he unwittingly toys with one of Viola's gadgets, which causes it to shoot sparks, helping Viola escape. Ben tells Todd about another village called Farbranch and says Viola will be safe there.

Viola escapes on a motorcycle while Todd chases after her on one of the horses. Prentiss and the men arrive at the farm, demanding Viola back as they believe she is a spy. Cillian is killed by Davy, and Ben is forced to join them. Meanwhile, Todd catches up to Viola and the two begin a journey to Farbranch, accompanied by Todd's dog, Manchee. During the journey, Viola reveals to Todd that she is from a Colony Ship carrying over 4000 passengers and that her parents died during the journey to New World. Todd reveals he never even knew his real parents. When they encounter one of the native aliens, Todd tries to kill it, but Viola stops him because it does not appear to be dangerous. They arrive at Farbranch, which is inhabited by men, women and children, and are displeased to see Todd there because he is from Prentisstown.

Todd discovers his mother's diary, but Viola reads it to him because he cannot. The diary reveals that the women were not killed by the native aliens, as Prentiss has claimed, but rather by Prentiss and the men. This angers Todd, as he realizes that everything he was told was a lie. Prentiss and his men arrive, again demanding Viola. Ben tries to get Todd to surrender Viola, but Todd is angry with him for lying. Instead of capturing Viola, Ben uses an image of her to distract Prentiss and his men while Todd and Viola escape. Aaron chases them. They come upon a boat, and, as they escape, Aaron kills Manchee, which further enrages Todd.

The next day, Viola and Todd arrive at the ruins of the first colony ship. They enter it and try to send a signal to the colony ship, but the satellite is damaged, so Todd goes to fix it. When Prentiss and his men arrive, Todd surrenders himself, as Prentiss is holding Ben hostage. Aaron goes inside to kill Viola, but she immolates him with one of her gadgets. Todd appears, but Prentiss shoots Ben. Todd goes to him and, unknown to Prentiss, gives him a knife. Todd engages Prentiss, but he uses illusions of himself to distract Todd. As he is about to strike Todd, Todd uses illusions of his mother and every woman, calling Prentiss a coward. Viola attacks Prentiss, who seemingly falls to his death. The colony ship appears in the sky, causing Davy and the remaining men of Prentisstown to flee.

Todd wakes up in the colony ship's medical room, fully healed, and he and Viola head out to meet the other colonists.

Madhav is a good basketball player who cannot speak English well. He gets accepted into University based on a sports quota where he meets Riya Somani, an upper-class young girl who is allowed temporary admission based on a sports quota. 

They become good friends and play basketball every evening on the college court. When Madhav tells his roommate Shailesh and friends about Riya, they push him to ask Riya out for a date, but she stops him and asks him just to be a friend. Madhav's friends still encourage him to pursue Riya in the hopes that she will eventually date him.

One day Madhav and Riya hang out at night. Madhav picks her up from her house, and after spending the night, when she comes back home, she kisses Madhav before entering her house.

When Madhav attends Riya's birthday, he questions her about the nature of their relationship. Uncomfortable, Riya says that she is not his girlfriend, but they can maybe reach a compromise since they have reached halfway, and she offers to be his "Half Girlfriend."

Madhav's mother runs a school in their village where only boys study because of girls' absence of toilets. Madhav learns that Bill Gates is coming to Patna and will be funding grants to schools. Madhav decides to apply for a grant, for which he goes to Chanakya hotel in Patna.

After the meeting, Madhav meets Riya, who was residing in the hotel and works for Closeup. They meet and hang out for some time, where Madhav comes to know that Riya has divorced because her husband and his mother tried to beat her. As Madhav needs to give a speech in English for Bill Gates, Riya helps him prepare for it. One day, he takes her to his house, where Madhav's mother asks her about her past- her marriage. She acts rudely with her upon knowing that she is a divorcee. A few days before the speech, when Riya had to go back to Patna, Madhav's mother requests her to stay away from Madhav. She, however, attends Madhav's speech, where he is successful in getting a grant from the Bill Gates Foundation. After the speech had ended, a small girl from the school hands her a Riya letter for Madhav. He learns from the letter that Riya has been diagnosed with blood cancer and will die in three months. She requests him not to search for her as she herself does not know where she will go. In the present day, Madhav is seen going to Riya's house to deliver her belongings to her mother, who starts crying on learning about Riya's disease. Madhav recalls that she wanted to become a singer at a bar in New York. Unprepared, Madhav goes to New York to visit his friend Shailesh.

Shailesh and his wife Rutvi learn about the whole incident and try to deviate Madhav's attention from Riya. Rutvi tries to set him up with Anshika, her friend. They spend some time together. Madhav tries to find Riya for three months continuously, and his time runs out. On the last day, when he was attending his farewell party, he saw a video where Anshika, who had fallen in love with him, thanked him for being a part of his life. While she thanked him over a song while sitting at a bar, Madhav sees a blurred picture of the singer who somewhat looked similar to Riya, and the song was the same as the one which Riya sang. Desperate, he runs for the café amidst falling snow and without any transport. Upon reaching the café, he requests the guard to allow him to enter. He enters the bar and finds out the singer is indeed Riya. Riya and Madhav reconcile and consummate their relationship.

A few years later, Madhav is seen talking to his mother about opening a new school, and Riya helps their daughter learn to play basketball, who is unable to do it. Riya tells her daughter never to give up.

A man named Tim Templeton tells a story about his imaginative seven-year-old self and his parents, Ted and Janice. 

One day, Tim is surprised when an infant wearing a business suit arrives at his house in a taxi, and Ted and Janice refer to him as Tim's little brother. Tim is envious of the attention the day-old baby receives, and suspicious because of the infant's clothes and the strange behavior he exhibits around Tim, but his parents are oblivious.

Soon, Tim learns that the baby can talk like an adult, and he introduces himself as "The Boss". Seeing an opportunity to get rid of him, Tim decides to use a cassette tape to record a conversation between Boss Baby and other toddlers who are at Tim's house for a meeting, under the guise of a play date in the eyes of the parents. In this meeting, Boss Baby explains that puppies have been receiving more love than babies and is in search of a new file containing evidence of a new puppy from Puppy Co., a company that launches new products for dogs, intends to release. Before they can finish, they catch Tim spying on them. A chase ensues, and Boss Baby threatens to tear up Tim's favorite stuffed animal, Lam-Lam. Tim tries to slingshot Boss Baby out of a window, but is caught by his parents, and accidentally slingshots the cassette tape outside of the house before it is destroyed by a passing automobile. With no evidence to support him, Tim's parents ground him until he becomes friends with Boss Baby.

Boss Baby apologizes to Tim and has him suck on a pacifier that transports them to Baby Corp., a place where infants with adult-like minds work to preserve infant love everywhere. Boss Baby explains that he was sent to see why puppies are being loved more than infants and that he has infiltrated Tim's residence because his parents work for Puppy Co., which will unleash the new puppy on a pet convention in Las Vegas. Boss Baby remains intelligent by drinking a "Secret Baby Formula", which enables a baby to act like an adult; however, should a baby not drink it after a period of time, he or she becomes a regular baby. When they overhear Boss Baby's boss threatening to fire him for not bringing in information, which would strip him of his formula and strand him at the Templetons, he and Tim agree to work together to prevent that.

Tim's parents undo his punishment and take the brothers to Puppy Co. for take your child to work day. While there, they slip away and find what they assume is the plans for a "Forever Puppy", but they are captured by the company's founder and CEO, Francis E. Francis. They discover that Francis used to be the head of Baby Corp., and whom Boss Baby idolizes. Francis reveals that he intends to have the Forever Puppies overshadow babies by stealing Boss Baby's serum bottle and injecting the puppies with it as revenge for being fired from Baby Corp., since it was discovered that his secret formula stopped working due to his lactose intolerance. Tim's parents go with Francis to Vegas, and Francis has his brother Eugene pose as Tim and Boss Baby's babysitter to keep them from interfering.

Without a steady flow of formula to maintain his intelligence, Boss Baby starts becoming a normal baby. Despite this, with the help of other toddlers, he and Tim evade the "babysitter" long enough to reach the airport but are too late to intercept Tim's parents. The two argue, but later reconcile and sneak onto a plane full of Elvis Impersonators bound for Las Vegas. There, they stall Francis' presentation when Eugene unwittingly gives away their plan. Furious at their interference, Francis locks Tim's parents up so he can kill them with exhaust from a rocket used to launch the Forever Puppies. Tim and Boss Baby defeat Eugene and move on to save their parents but are intercepted by Francis. Tim and Boss Baby push him off a ledge, making Francis tumble into the formula. Boss Baby opens the rocket to let the puppies out so they can save Tim's parents. His return to baby state is complete while on the rocket, and begins to cry, but Tim sings to him with the family song to show his appreciation, causing him to jump off the rocket before it launches. After the rocket does launch, Tim takes Boss Baby to the formula vat and he returns to his original self. Francis then emerges from the vat, having been transformed into a baby, and tries to attack Boss Baby, but is picked up by a redeemed Eugene and tells Tim and Boss Baby that, "This time, we'll raise him right."

Boss Baby is promoted and leaves, while the parents have their memories be erased of him so they wouldn't become suspicious. Tim goes back to being an only child, but he and Boss Baby, having bonded with each other during their mission, begin to miss each other. After Tim writes a letter convincing him to live with him as his brother, Boss Baby returns to the Templeton family as a regular baby named Theodore Lindsey "Ted" Templeton Jr., and they grow up together. In the present, Tim finishes telling his daughter Tabitha[a] about the birth of his brother, now an adult businessman, to calm her worries about her recently-born sister, Tina,whom Tabitha notices she is another Boss Baby like Ted was.

Commando Karanveer Singh Dogra "Karan" is skilled in many aspects of survival, weaponry, and hand-to-hand combat.

 He is on a mission to eradicate black money, which has been siphoned to banks along with his gang. He goes to Vicky Chaddha's house, where his wife Maria reveals that they didn't have a life like this in the past during nighttime. The film flashes to a flashback where his husband was forced to do all this because when he declined to do a dangerous job, the very next day, a bomb blast occurred where Vicky was saved, but their daughter Tara died. Very soon, Maria kills her husband and says that she is the real Vicky Chaddha. Karan and his gang follow Vicky Chaddha and finally find her transferring money to an account. Karan beats up all the army in her team but doesn't stop the money transfer. It is then revealed that he changed the history in which the money was scheduled to the transferred and the replaced account, which will help the poor people. He said this was planned on the very first day. When Vicky says that police cannot arrest her, Bhavna Reddy shoots Vicky and gets out of there. While Karan and Bhavna will be together, a phone call arrives where Karan says he is waiting for a new mystery to arrive.
